The Romance is Back on…

In 2021, I wrote a short story for a competition — it had to be a romance, and include a noisy neighbour. It was the first time I’d ever written romance, and a lot of fun. My story, called Nest Egg, didn’t make it through the second round. I was disappointed.

But on the same day I got that knockback, I heard about the Newcastle Short Story award. I tweaked one or two lines, and sent off my story, again. I was shortlisted! Just shows you how subjective the reading and judging process is.

Nest Egg has now been published in the award anthology along with some excellent writing by other Australian authors. Since I still own the copyright, you can read my chirpy romance story for free, if you click
